Melio

Melio is a business payments platform built for small businesses to manage accounts payable and get paid, simply and affordably. Its core promise is flexibility with low cost: pay any vendor or bill by free ACH bank transfer, or by credit/debit card even when the vendor only accepts checks or bank transfers (Melio handles the conversion), so businesses can defer cash, earn card rewards, and pay everyone from one place. Recipients get paid however they prefer — bank deposit or mailed check — without needing a Melio account. The platform streamlines payables without heavy setup. Businesses schedule and batch payments, set approval workflows, sync bills and payments two-way with QuickBooks and Xero, and pay international vendors. Melio charges no monthly subscription on its entry plan — ACH is free and fees apply only to specific options like card payments (a percentage) and expedited or check delivery — making it especially appealing to very small businesses and those who want AP automation without the cost of enterprise tools. Paid tiers add more users, approvals, and features. Melio serves freelancers, small businesses, and their accountants, and in June 2025 Xero announced its acquisition of Melio, deepening its accounting-plus-payments story. Pricing includes a free Go plan (one user, free ACH) and paid plans — Core around $25, Boost around $55, and Unlimited around $80 per user per month (with ~20% off annually) — plus per-transaction fees (card ~2.9%, international ~$20 flat). It competes with Bill.com, QuickBooks Bill Pay, Ramp, and Tipalti, differentiating on simplicity, free ACH, and flexible pay-by-card.
