Qwant

What is Qwant?

Qwant is a European search engine that does not track searches or build advertising profiles, and it adds AI-generated short answers and page summaries to results.

Key capabilities of Qwant

• Private search: The vendor states zero tracking of searches, zero advertising tracking and zero sale of personal data.
• Unpersonalized results: Everyone receives the same results for the same query, with no filtering by search history.
• AI answers: Short answers and page summaries appear in results for logged-in users.
• Chat AI: A conversational answer engine that returns sourced answers and is hosted in Europe.
• Own index: Qwant says it uses its own indexing technology rather than relying only on outside sources.
• Mobile apps: iOS and Android apps work as both a search engine and a browser.

How Qwant works

A query runs against Qwant's index and returns standard web results that are not personalized by history. For logged-in users, an AI layer can add a short answer or summary above the results, and Qwant Chat AI offers a conversational mode with cited sources. The vendor describes compliance with the standards of CNIL, the French data protection authority. Its homepage was unavailable in some regions when checked, so access can vary by country.

Who uses Qwant?

People who want a search engine that avoids tracking, privacy-minded users in Europe, and anyone wanting a European alternative to Google or Bing for everyday search. The vendor reports 90% user satisfaction.

Qwant pricing

Qwant is free to use. The vendor does not publish a paid tier on its search pages.
