ProRata

What is ProRata?

ProRata is an AI company founded by Bill Gross whose Gist.ai search product answers questions using only licensed content. It attributes each answer to its sources and shares 50% of revenue with content partners.

Key capabilities of ProRata

• Licensed content only: No scraping without consent.
• Attribution: Creators receive credit for content used in answers.
• 50% revenue share: Paid to content partners.
• Traffic promotion: Directs users back to original sources.
• Usage reporting: Shows publishers how content is used in AI searches.
• Attribution for AI advertising: Attribution solutions beyond search.

How ProRata works

ProRata licenses content from publishers and creators, and its engine attributes each answer to the sources it drew from. Revenue is then distributed to partners based on that usage, and publishers see reporting on how their content is used.

Who uses ProRata?

Publishers, media and music companies and consumers who want sourced AI answers. Partners include The Atlantic, Fortune, Axel Springer and Universal Music Group. ProRata is based in Pasadena, California.

ProRata pricing

ProRata does not publish pricing for its publisher and attribution services on its homepage. Gist.ai consumer terms were not confirmed in research.

ProRata alternatives

Brave Search and Kagi are search engines with independent indexes, and Andi is an AI answer engine. ProRata differs by paying licensed publishers a share of revenue.
